VIC TOUR 20/21 | ROUND 3 – KAY’S WIN AA

by bamvbva

Another round of positive results, on the back of the first state rep trials. Here are some standouts…

SINGLE A, DOUBLE A, NOW AAA KAY’S!

It has been a phenomenal rise this season, for Sam and Will. In round one the lads missed AA quarters on points count-back, having held their own with a third place and three-setters across every game.

Round two saw the brothers demoted to A . Their performance that day, across the tournament, was fantastic. Beating fellow VBVA Elite crew Joey and Dallas in three tight sets to take out the division.

Then came Round three. Back in AA, the Kay’s rolled through their pool without dropping a set, beating Vic Beach stalwart Grant Meyer and partner Nathan Malloy (18-8, 18-15) in the final, having beaten them earlier in pool play.

With a AA win comes a ticket into a AAA event… an option they’ll be primed and ready to take up in round five. But before then, it’ll be Round four… the Vic Open AAA, in two weeks. Brilliant work boys.

LUCIA AND EVIE LOSE CLOSE AAA SEMI!

Back in AAA following a AA win and a National tour Div 2 silver, Lucia and Evie found themselves in a three team pool. The sisters started the day with a win over French/Embry 21-16, 21-15, before losing a close game to eventual winners Angermeier/Sturgeon to 19-21, 19-21.

A fantastic semi-final against Evie’s round one partner Sam Date, and Tori Schaw, pulled in a wall full of raucous support. Experience prevailing over youth on this occasion; the La Terra girls losing in three  13-18, 18- 8, 10-15.

ETHAN AND MAX MAKE B FINAL!

They were so close! For the second tournament in succession Ethan and Max blitzed their pool; Undefeated, no sets dropped. They then got past fellow VBVA crew Tommy and Cal, in their quarter 15-11, 7-15, 12-6. A mistake-free masterclass 18-11, 18-11 win over Lelo/Allison in their semi, was a result in stark contrast to their final performance.

A game they lost 10-18, 15-18 to Susskind/Nguyen.

HONORABLE MENTIONS…

Talia and Hannah made AA quarters.

Siena and partner Ella taking the division finalists to three sets in their AA pool.

Lindsay and Heath made A semi’s, with Arki and Klaas losing a close quarter final to the division winners.

Caitie with partner Brylee, made quarters of A.

Cal and Tommy making B quarters… knocked out by Ethan and Max

And… tier 2 hustle-master Tom, playing with fellow U15 bronze medalist Kurtis, almost beat their 2020 state coach Samir 15-17 in the third!

Well done to all!
