A lot happened in Season 23/24… there were wins across all divisions at state level; some great results on the national tour and some podium finishes at the Youth Champs in Coolangatta.
So, let’s look back on the best results. We had very few playing the first round as it conflicted with junior competition… so, let’s start with:
VicBeach State Tour
Round 3 (Which came before Round 2)
In Open AA Women, Hilary and Lucy beat Jess and her partner James 18-9, 18-11, to win the division and give themselves an invite to AAA – the highest division in the state. In the final of Open A Women, Shalomi and partner Ellie beat Ella and her partner Ruby 18-13, 18-15.
Round 2 (Which followed Round 3)
In Open AA Women, Gemma and Emma cruise through their final to win the division, beating Leah and Isadora in the semi. Max and Gui lose a tight semi in the Open AA Men’s division. Bobby and Brock took out the Open B Men’s, edging past Sanjhit and Jin in the final. They beat Remo and Seb in the semi. Jack and his partner Tate lost the other semi.
Round 4
Only a small number of the crew competed in the fourth round of the Vic Beach Series. Leah, playing with partner Alma, lost their first AA final. At the other end of the beach Jack and partner Lewis grabbed top spot in the Open Men’s B division.
Round 5
Max and Will – back on holidays from the AVA – lost a tight three-setter in the semi’s of Men’s AAA. In the Women’s AAA, Evie and Lucia lost their semi to eventual winners Anna and Daisy, having played almost immediately after beating Gemma and Emma in a tough quarter. Talia stepped back to AA to partner with sis Shalomi, losing a closely fought semi. Jess and partner Ellie-May lost the other semi. Ryan and partner Lucas took out the A division.
Round 6
Klaas, playing with partner Ben rolled through AA Men’s, as did Jess and her partner James in the AA Women’s… both winning their finals in straight sets.
Round 7
Fresh from winning AA, Klaas and partner Ben blew up the script, and took out the AAA Men’s division, beating Justin and OG VBVA crew member Garang in the final. In the AA Women’s division Hilary and Lucy won their second AA event, beating Leah and Audrey in the semi’s. Isadora and her partner Alma lost the other semi.
Round 8: Vic Open
For the third event in a row Klaas and partner Ben stepped up, this time at the biggest event of the season. They lost the AAA Men’s final in a repeat of the previous round, to Justin and Garang. James and Max bagged a 13th in the double elimination format. Evie and Lucia finished 7th in the Women’s AAA division; Emily and partner Olivia finished 9th. Talia, Emma and their respective partners finished 13th. Gui, Jayvier and Jack all made the AA Men’s quarters, and Remo and Jin lost 18-20 in the third set of a tight B final.
Round 9
Klaas, with partner Rob, won AAA. Lucy and Hilary made the quarters of Women’s AAA. Brock, with partner Torren lost a close AA final, beating Gui and his partner Erich in the semi’s. Jess and partner Ellie-May won AA, beating Ella and partner Ruby in the final, having knocked out Leah and Isadora in their semi. Sanjhit and partner Nate made the semi’s of A, and Gemma,Greer and partners Ellie and Katelyn lost a close B Women’s final.
