Another week, another AA win. Lulu and Ella, both potentially playing their final beach event of the Australian season, won the Round 9 AA final in straight sets, beating Jess and her partner Ruby. A great result for all three VBVA girls.
Proving the strength of Pool C, both finals’ teams scraped through, as three teams finished the round on two wins/one loss. Fellow VBVA crew Lucy and Hilary beat Jess and Ruby, but lost to Lulu and Ella… who lost to Jess and Ruby. Lulu and Ella topped the group on points, with Jess and Ruby sliding in on count-back. In the quarters, Jess and Ruby won in two, while Lulu and Ella, living on the edge, came back from a 6-18 first set to beat Cat and her partner Marcella. The pairs switched results for the semi’s, potentially tiring Jess and Ruby, who went on to lose to Lulu and Ella in a two-set final.
In other special mentions, Evie and Talia lost a tight AAA semi-final to eventual winners Donlan/Friedrich, having dispatched Burns/Reichmuth in the quarters… and Angus WON his A final playing with state team partner Thomas.
Finally, Seb, Lenny and Leo, playing with state teammate Ethan, lost a tough semi-final to an older age crew in the Mixed Triples.
