JOEY, WILL AND SAM REPRESENT AUSTRALIA IN THAILAND: A Q&A…

by bamvbva

Joey, Will and Sam were selected for, an Australian Indoor squad, which traveled to Thailand throughout the April holidays to compete in a National U21s event.

Below are the boys responses to a few questions, soon after arriving back in Australia.

How did it feel being handed your first Australian tops?

JOEY | A very large sense of achievement as it has been a goal of mine for over a year now, also making me push further for my second top in the future.

SAM | I felt a great deal of achievement and pride, as I had worked toward the moment for a number of years

WILL | It was a fantastic feeling; I felt a sense of pride and joy.

What role/s were you playing in your team?

JOEY | I was the most vocal leader on my team [laughs out loud]: I played as a pass hitter also…

SAM | I played a little as a pass/hitter, but mainly libero. My role was to take charge in the passing line-up; keep the talk up and tell the other passers to either move up short and take the serve on our hands (set), or move back to pass on our platform.

WILL | I played as a pass/hitter but, like Sam, mostly as a libero.

Describe your best moment on the court…

JOEY | My best moment on court would probably be bouncing a ball down the line past the block and turning around to see my team and the rest of the squad celebrate after I won the point.

SAM | My first kill hit! A close second would have been retrieving a serve that clipped the net and landed short on our side. I dived forward, picked up the ball and then watched as we killed the point. It really got the team motivated, and we picked up a lot after that.

WILL | Definitely my first kill… in an international match, representing my country!!

Describe Thailand.

JOEY | BLOODY HOT! Dripping in sweat after you’ve lent forward to put your shoes on is definitely an experience. No complaints though.

SAM | So different; a great experience!

WILL | Thailand was a great experience; for both the volleyball, and as a way to better understand the Thai culture. I had an amazing time and it was lots of fun.

Well done boys!
