PRESS RELEASE
South Melbourne Beach – The official warm-up event for the Victorian Beach Volleyball Tour became host to the youngest winning pair of an open age ‘A’ competition over the weekend.
Local Vic Beach Volleyball Academy (VBVA) players Alba Skellern (15, Albert Park College) and Lauren Taylor (12, Maribyrnong College) won six of seven games competing against players ranging in age from 15 to 35 in what was their first tournament together on Sunday.
“It’s a sensational result for the girls,” said VBVA Head Coach Brett Middlin, who believes the pair is on course to follow seven previous Academy members in becoming National Age Champions.
“It may have been a warm-up tournament, but the level was strong for the division and they never really looked like losing once they stepped into the quarter finals. Lauren, for her age, did a fantastic job… and Alba has only been playing the sport for about six months; the future is looking bright for both of them.”
The pair are hoping to make the step up into the ‘AA’ division for the first official tour event of the year at South Melbourne Beach this weekend.
