Long considered the greatest beach volleyball event to ever be held on sand north of Manly – but not further north than Palm beach; the 2021 Newport Beach Classic didn’t disappoint.
The Classic has seen epic comebacks, mammoth performances, and its fair share of controversy over the years. There were no exceptions in this, the sixth installment of a truly magnificent event.
The competitors – an invitational selection of the best juniors out of Victoria – had travelled north for the opportunity to test themselves, playing with and against their fellow players. Three teams of four battled it out in mixed and single sex matches, with the winning team competitors each picking up an exclusive ‘one of a kind’ (technically four of a kind) hoodie, valued at $2500*.
The competitors pushed each other past boundaries not seen since the day before; ‘effort’ was asked to step up and show itself in every game… except for those it was not. The crowds applauded every point, as local kids dived in and out of the pristine sewage water only metres from the far less toxic ocean waves.
This was an event like no other… and like any good broadcaster, we have each and every game below, for your avid perusal. So, sit back and enjoy the greatest beach volleyball you have ever seen in the last half hour, if you weren’t watching any other volleyball in the past half hour!
